April 8: Day 16. Bags out at 2300 the previous night, breakfast at 0600, and we disembark Silver Origin at 0800. As we get ready to board a bus that will take us to the airport, Jane starts become very weak and wobbly, and by the time we get to the airport she cannot stand up. She is severely dehydrated. A wheelchair is provided along with plenty of fluids, and seats are reassigned so that she and Capt. Larry can sit near the front of the plane for easy boarding and exiting.
Cheers and goodbyes! |
One hour later as we are getting ready to board for our 2-hour flight to Guayaquil, she is starting to feel a little better. At the Guayaquil airport, we collect our luggage and board a bus that will take us to our hotel, the Hotel Del Parque. We have the opportunity to do some local sightseeing near the hotel, but decide that the time would be better spent getting Jane restored and resting up for our flight home tomorrow.
Our entire group assembles at the Hotel del Parque’s Casa Julian Restaurant for farewell cocktails and dinner. We are happy to be going home tomorrow but will miss David and Linda’s company until a future trip brings us back together (at our age there should probably be a hopefully somewhere in there!). We get our last taste of South American food (believe it or not there was no ceviche!) and say farewell to the other group members. We cut the after dinner conversation short and head to bed early, as we have a 0100 wakeup for a transfer to the airport for an early international flight back to the states.
And that is all we are going to say about this trip!
